Kodaline

These four childhood friends from Dublin are responsible for one of the most alluring and beautifully crafted EP’s to be released this year. They are Kodaline and are set to send hearts fluttering, feet stomping, hands clapping and soon, fans chanting every word. 
 
Steve Garrigan (Lead Vox), Mark Prendergast (Guitar, Keys & Vox), Vinny May Jr, (Drums & Vox) and Jason Boland (Bass & Vox) are Kodaline. It’s early doors for the band but their sound is as developed as someone twice their age. 
 
Steve, Vinny and Mark all met at the age of eight so their self-titled EP channels their experiences throughout the years, especially breakups. Laced with heartache, the opener All I Want is a poignant, folk foresight into the bands encounter with lost love. Then the mood transforms into the uplifting, enigmatic, psychedelic track Lose Your Mind. ‘I’m dreaming of a world with you and all the things that we could do’ – Steve’s effortless pitch-perfect vocals and the harmonies that follow sweep you off your feet. 
 
Darkness descends again on single Pray with an ending resembling the climatic conclusion to Mumford and Son’s Thistle and Weeds. Perfect World saunters at the end, rounding off the small collection quietly. The Kodaline EP’s dramatic change in pace, mood and genre projects the bands diversity and gives us a taster of what to expect from future releases.
